Coup de Foudre
(love at first sight)
60"x30"acrylic on canvas
This artwork was inspired earlier this year after I noticed a big butterfly in my greenhouse.
I attempted to assist he out into the open, but unfortunately his time here passed right in front of me. I instantly wondered if he had found a mate. I then found the the phrase "Coup de foudre" meaning love at first sight. I identified it as male Common Swallowtail after I visited the Butterfly House located at First ave Bribie Island. These chain of events were the inspiration to use him as a reference for my next painting.
I am honoured to have been a selected finalist in the Kennedy Art Prize 2018 (themed beauty), from over 300 painting entries Australia wide, to be one of only 53.
These butterflies have travelled to Adelaide and and back home to Bribie Island. Where will their wings take them next?
